Summary: Annually district and campus administrators utilize the district’s Strategic Plan goals and performance objectives approved by the School Board to develop, review and revise the district and campus improvement plans in collaboration with staff and respective planning committees (District-Wide Educational Improvement Committee-DWEIC and Campus Performance Objectives Committee-CPOC).
Comprehensive data analysis is essential in the determination of district and campus strengths and needs for improving student performance for all student groups. This data analysis is conducted through the Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA).
State and federal law both outline the requirement for schools to conduct a CNA as part of the planning and decision-making process. When conducted thoroughly, the CNA tool provides schools with identified strengths, weaknesses, and specific priorities for addressing student achievement and meeting challenging academic and performance standards. For 2017-18, the district is researching best practices for continuous improvement to create a new framework for school improvement. We will utilize Multiple Measures of data – i.e. Demographics, Perceptions, Student Achievement, and Processes and Programs to develop Problem Statements. We will use “Problem Statements” instead of listing “Needs” in our CNA to assist in determining root causes. The Problem Statements will be used to develop strategies aligned to district goals and student learning. We are moving from compliance to a commitment toward excellence.
Due to the realignment of district priorities, student data, new leadership, curriculum audit recommendations, etc., the Superintendent’s Cabinet is currently in the process of refining our CNA and updating our Strategies.
Attached are “drafts” of our 2017-18 DIP and CIPs in development for your review of our progress. Additional discussion and a presentation on this item is tentatively scheduled for the next Board Workshop on November 9, 2017. The “final drafts” will be submitted for approval at a future board meeting.
